Devotions from Zechariah 3
Satan has many names and one of the prominent one is the “Accuser.” His main job among others is to ensure you are not right with God. Anything you do is marked to be judged by Satan to take it to the courtroom and begin judging your wrongdoing. Isn’t this quite scary for children of God trying to please God in our walk and yet Satan accuses us of not being right with God?
- Joshua the High Priest was to be wearing a clean garment (metaphorically) before the presence of his people but was told his clothes were filthy and not a proper one to wear in front of his people nor God. The Accuser was right in pointing out the sin of the High Priest. He gets a 10/10 for this and yet, God condemns Satan because of God’s love for Jerusalem. God not only sees the condition of Joshua the High Priest but also sees that he was snatched from the fire. Satan only looks at the sin we’ve committed and not who we are. God, in turn, sees us more than the sin and yearns to forgive us.

Forgiveness from God does not come because we are good, but only because He is good. He calls us His own. Every time! Every now!
2. The truth of the matter: The Accuser was not lying here. He was right in showing the filthiness of the High Priest. Satan’s tactics is to always see you let you down. He cannot lie before God. He can do that to you, in order to entice you to think against God. But before the presence of God, the only thing that’s possible is to only accuse us of wrongdoing. And yet, because of the mercy of God, we are forgiven. And once again, not because we are worthy but because our God is worthy to forgive us.
3. God Cleans us and Give us His Charge: When God calls us to work for Him, we got to be a clean vessel. More than the work we do, we are to be clean before His presence, and yet, it’s God who can only clean us. Not by our own will or power. Joshua had work to do for his people. He is to be the mediator between God and the people of Jerusalem and done rightly so. Yet, because of his filthy clothes, he could not stand right to the task given to him. God cleanses his clothes, puts on a clean garment and now when he stands before God, he is clean and the Accuser cannot condemn the sinner any longer.
God loves us so much that He gave us His one and only begotten Son.
God then charges Joshua the High Priest to walk in obedience to God and only then will he be given charge to govern God’s house and a position among those who were standing there. We are clean by the blood of Jesus Christ and we are free and yet, God charges us to take care of His courthouse only if we are obedient to Him and walk in His ways.
May God help us to learn to walk in obedience to God now and forevermore. Amen!
