A son honours his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honour due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the LORD Almighty. – Malachi 1:6
God longs for a relationship with us. When God created Adam and Eve, His delight was to make us like His own image in order to be with Him, talk to Him, live for Him and His glory alone. And yet, time and time again, human beings have failed Him. Either, they misunderstood God and falsely revered Him or took advantage of His love and mercy and did not respect Him.

We have and are miserably failing constantly in our relationship with God. Most Christians want a genie in a bottle; rub em, and puff a genie comes out and grants your wishes. Once done, put the genie to where it belongs until you want it again. We’ve lost our understanding of what God wants us to be in the first place. 21st CE is no different from 516 BCE. When the people of Israel came together after their exile, they started to look out for themselves and gave God broken offerings and sacrifices. Sort of how we give God our offering, tithes, and life today.
We take advantage of God’s mercy in our lives. Once saved-always saved. I now can get back to my work and not be worried in honouring God or respecting for who He is to me. I regret and am ashamed of my own lifestyle of creating two barriers to God. One, giving God my poor offerings and second, not giving him due honour and respect He deserves.
We all fail, David constantly failed. And yet, God was pleased with King David for a reason that David honoured and respected Him. He feared God. His relationship with God was so strong, he got up, dusted his dirty clothes and sought God to be upright once again. How do we measure with our relationship with God today? Do we worship God because we honour Him or because we want something from Him? Do we take things for granted because at one point of time we committed our lives to God?
Our evangelism is corrupted as well. We talk to people and say, “Come to God and He will heal you. Come to God and He will deliver you from all your troubles and worries.” We want to woo people to become Christians because they can get cured from their problems or answer to their prayer.
God is reminding us today to honour and respect him. Both as a Father and Master. He deserves my morning, my afternoon, evening, and my night. He wants to spend His time with us constantly. Are we ready to spend our time with God today?
